šŸ¦What was all that smoke?

In today's Danville Scoop: Kidchella returns. Senior Variety Show. Summer Camp Blues.

Good morning, Danville. Did you know that dolphins develop signature whistles early in life, which act similar to names? These distinct calls allow them to recognize and communicate with each other, serving as a way to identify one another and maintain social connections.

In today’s Danville Scoop:

  • Kidchella series returns for summer 2025

  • Stuck without a summer ā˜€ļø camp?

  • POLL: Would you perform in Danville’s Senior Variety Show?

Let’s get after it!

THE DIGEST

What was all that smoke? šŸŒ«ļø

If you were around the Blackhawk area yesterday, the air was smokier than a Xicaru Reposado Mezcal at Auburn Lounge on a Sunday afternoon.

  • The 5-acre Alameda Fire was the culprit.

Due to a wildfire, residents between Blackhawk Road and Green Valley Trail in Diablo received a PREPARE TO EVACUATE warning from the CWS Alerts System. The fire was contained and an all clear was issues at 1:38 PM.

Stuck without a summer camp? Don’t panic.

February. Parent’s favorite time of year… 10 browsers open simultaniously, spreadsheets looking at every summer camp calendar, and you’re on the phone with 5 other parents trying to book summer camp classes before they fill up only to realize you missed registration. But don’t lose your mind just yet; there are plenty of options to keep your kids occupied (and you sane) this summer.

The Town of Danville’s Rec Guide have programs still available in their Activity Search for toddlers through high school kids. Filter by When, Where, Who (age), and the Type of activites.

For the outdoor adventurer in your life, East Bay Regional Park District has day camp available.

For creative and artistic kids, Dreamland Art & Play and Creative Art & Clay both offer camps, workshop, and single-events for your kids to get their hands dirty.

Auditions are happening for Danville’s Senior Variety Show šŸ’ƒ

Ever found yourself chilling out on a hot day with a Lottie’s scoop in your hand thinking, ā€œWhat goes on in that senior center building…?ā€ You’re not alone. Our kids have danced to a group busking in front of that building, but what happends inside? Well, now is your chance to find out!

The Village Theatre is inviting adults 50 and older to take the stage at the Senior Variety Show held in September. Auditions for the show will be held Wednesday July 2nd from 9 AM-1 PM at the Village Theatre at 233 Front Street.

This got us thinking — would you be up for showing off your vocal talents, sharing your dancing ability you’ve been hiding away for decades, wowing a crowd with magic, or any other crowd-pleasing performance?

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Kidchella returns for the summer!

Do your kids love running outdoors, PB&J sandos, and live music as much as ours do? Then you’re in for a treat!

Kidchella is a free event that is open to the public and occurs at The Danville Town Green (420 Front Street). In partnership with the Danville Library, the events start at 11:15 AM (reading) and are followed by a music performance at noon.
