THE DIGEST

šŸŽ‡ Feeling the Post-4th Funk? You’re Not Alone

The sparklers are out, the flags are folded, and your fridge is finally out of hot dogs—but now you're left with the Post-4th of July Blues. It’s that weird, sluggish feeling that creeps in after the excitement dies down. One day you're watching fireworks and waving flags, and the next you're staring at the laundry pile wondering what day it is.

Good news? Danville’s got your back. Here are a few easy ways to lift your post-holiday mood:

šŸ’ƒ Get Moving
Go for a walk on the Iron Horse Trail or take a yoga class downtown. Moving your body clears your mind—plus, you might run into a neighbor and swap firework stories.

ā˜• Treat Yourself (Locally, of Course)
Grab an iced lavender latte from Sideboard or a pastry from Medleno. Something small and delicious can go a long way.

šŸŽØ Shift the Vibe
Swing by the Village Theatre Art Gallery and soak in some miniature masterpieces (yes, tiny art can lift your big mood).

šŸŽ¶ Plan Your Next Local Adventure
Nothing beats the blues like something to look forward to. Check out upcoming summer concerts on the Green, farmers markets, or outdoor movie nights. (Hint: we list them in the Scoop every week.)

🌳 July Is Officially Parks & Rec Month in Danville — Let the Fun Begin!

If it feels like summer in Danville just got an upgrade… it did. The Town Council has officially declared July as Parks & Recreation Month, and we are so here for it.

That means 31 glorious days of free and low-cost events popping up in all your favorite green spaces — from concerts and family movies to pop-up art shows and kid-approved dance parties. Think of it as Danville saying, ā€œGo outside, have fun, and don’t forget the sunscreen.ā€ ā˜€ļø

Here’s a taste of what’s coming:

  • šŸŽµ Music in the Park: Pack a picnic, bring your low-back chairs, and enjoy local bands under the stars. Bonus points if you bring glow sticks. Schedule šŸ—“ļø

  • šŸŽ¬ Moonlight Movies: Outdoor movie nights = cozy blankets, popcorn, and kids staying up way past bedtime. Schedule šŸ—“ļø

  • 🧁 Kidchella: The cutest little festival this side of the sandbox. Think music, crafts, games, and a whole lot of giggles.

  • šŸŽØ Art Receptions: Meet the makers, explore local talent, and support our creative community — all in beautiful open-air settings.

And this is just the beginning — Danville’s parks team has been hard at work turning our trails, playgrounds, and plazas into summer central. Whether you’re hiking, swinging, strolling, painting, or lounging — this month is for you.

šŸ“ø Snag a few sunny selfies and tag #ParksMakeLifeBetter to show off how Danville does summer right. From Sycamore to Osage, Hap Magee to Oak Hill — let’s flood the feed with nature, neighbors, and nonstop fun.

Let’s get outside, Danville! šŸŒ²šŸŽ¶

šŸ’° Big Budget Decisions Coming to Town Hall

Danville’s 2025–2026 operating budget is on deck for a Town Council vote this Tuesday, and the numbers are no joke—$46.9 million worth of town services, community programming, park upkeep, and pothole fixes are up for approval.

Also on the table? The Master Fee Schedule (that’s what sets prices for things like facility rentals and permit applications) and the Successor Agency Budget—a fancy way of wrapping up what’s left of Danville’s old Community Development Agency.

If you care about trail maintenance, rec classes, street paving, or how many lifeguards are on duty this summer, this meeting matters. Local government may not be sexy, but it is where the magic (and money) happens.

šŸ–¼ļø Tiny Art, Big Impact: "Art in Miniature" Turns 15

Danville’s cozy Village Theatre Art Gallery is dialing things down in size—but not in style—with the 15th Annual ā€œArt in Miniatureā€ exhibit. Running July 12 through September 19, this juried show features 89 bite-sized masterpieces created by 36 artists, spanning paintings, ceramics, and sculptures that pack major detail into 4Ɨ6‑inch or smaller canvases.

Curated by acclaimed miniature maestro Barbara Stanton, the collection draws entries not just from around California—but even as far afield as South Africa. That’s right: tiny art, global swagger.

šŸ’« Opening Reception: Kick things off on Saturday, July 12, 5‑7 PM at 233 Front St. (aka the Village Theatre Art Gallery). Mingle with artists, sip some sparkling cider, and get close-up with art that proves small can be meaningfully mighty.

Whether you’re an art lover or a casual explorer, take a stroll downtown and experience how Danville curates creativity on a tiny scale with a huge heart.
